Eric Adman, Kenmore City Council Position # 6

Kenmore has been working on housing for a couple of years, both as a priority and to respond to the state "Missing Middle" mandate. That will generate some new housing types, potentially a little more affordable. However, I don't think it will solve affordability issues, so the work is not done, and will be long-term. Kenmore needs to continue to preserve existing low-income housing and look for ways to create low to moderate income housing.

I would like to see short-term emergency housing options, maybe in partnership with other local cities and/or King County. We should also continue to support stable and well-managed temporary homeless housing such as the camp which has been at Northlake Lutheran Church.

In general, I think our public safety services (police and fire) are high quality and serve the general public well in Kenmore. However, I have heard of some possible hate crimes taking place, with questions about the police response. I would like to make sure those things are on our radar at the City so we can use our influence to make sure they are handled properly and that we are providing needed community support.

The City should continue to work with regional partners in things such as the Regional Crisis Response Agency and Connections Kirkland. The Shoreline Regional Fire Authority also has a Mobile Integrated Health team which helps connect people to services. We need to help get information out to communities and individuals who need access to services about these resources.

I am not aware of issues related to access to these services but I'd be happy to learn more. King County offers Dial-A-Ride and we have Metro transit locally on major roadways. I would say if we become aware of increased transportation needs we can work with King County to ask for additional options.

Offer relief to the extent that we are able. King County Treasury has a process for taxpayers to request property tax relief. We need to balance our need for revenue against impacts on low-income communities.

I think the first thing would be to identify which groups we are talking about, and then develop strategies to reach those groups. That could be via targeted mailings, website information in multiple languages, informational meetings, "coffee with council", or other strategies.

Identify where environmental impacts are disproportionately affecting community members, especially those who may have less of a voice. I am not aware of specific instances where this is an issue in Kenmore, but I'd be happy to learn more about this.

I am glad to learn about the Northshore Social Justice Action Group and would be happy to stay in communication with this group to help advance social justice priorities.
